A Visual Dive: Comparing the CGI in "GG" vs. "Little Princess"
GG Follows the story of Seth (IGN: Eskape) portaited by new gen hearthrob Donny Pangilinan. This film was produced in 2024 by MQuest Ventures, the same company behind TV5. While Little Princess follows the story of Princess portraited by Jo Berry. Both characters are esports players. This series was aired by GMA 7 in 2022 as part of their Afternoon Prime block.
When it comes to depicting the gaming world visually, both "GG" and "Little Princess" utilize CGI, but with noticeable differences in their approach and, arguably, their level of realism.
In "GG," given its central theme around esports and a specific game inspired by Valorant, the CGI used to portray the in-game action tends to lean towards a more realistic simulation of what one might expect from a modern tactical shooter.
We see detailed character models, weapon skins, and map environments that aim to immerse the viewer in the competitive digital arena. The visual fidelity in these sequences often mirrors the sleek and dynamic aesthetic of games like Valorant, contributing to the overall authenticity for gaming enthusiasts.
On the other hand, "Little Princess," while incorporating gaming as a part of the protagonist's life with a game inspired by Magic Legends (drawing from the fantasy elements of League of Legends and Dota 2), features CGI that appears less focused on photorealism and more on conveying the fantastical elements of that particular game world. The visual style might prioritize imaginative character designs and spell effects over the gritty realism often found in games like Valorant.
Based on observation, the CGI simulation in "GG" often presents a higher degree of perceived realism, likely because its in-game world is inspired by a contemporary and visually grounded genre like tactical shooters. The focus seems to be on making the game sequences feel like actual gameplay footage or high-quality esports broadcasts. In contrast, the CGI in "Little Princess," while serving its narrative purpose of showcasing the character's engagement with her chosen game, leans more towards stylized fantasy visuals.
This difference isn't necessarily a matter of quality but rather a reflection of the different genres and the role of gaming within each production. "GG" benefits from a more realistic CGI to immerse the audience in the esports competition, while "Little Princess" uses CGI to highlight the imaginative and potentially more stylized world of its character's game.
